Code of Conduct

SAFETY & RESPECT

The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all. To promote safety and comfort, the YMCA asks all persons to act appropriately at all times when in our facilities, on our property or participating in our programs. We expect persons using the YMCA to act in a manner consistent with our core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility and to adhere to all facility and age guidelines.

The actions listed below, which are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of behaviors, are considered inappropriate and are prohibited in our facilities or programs:

Using or possessing alcohol or illegal drugs on YMCA property, in YMCA vehicles or facilities, or at YMCA-sponsored programs
Smoking on YMCA property – all YMCA buildings and grounds are smoke-free environments
Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon
Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or any type of menacing behavior
Unwelcome contact or conduct with another person, including verbally abusive behavior
Sexually explicit conversation or behavior; any sexual contact with another person
Inappropriate attire. Members are expected to wear tops that cover the torso, along with shorts, pants, or leggings. Swimwear is only allowed in the pool area.
Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property
Abusing or defacing the YMCA building or its equipment
Loitering within facilities/grounds of the YMCA after being requested to depart YMCA property
Using social media in a manner that is contrary to the YMCA’s mission, is detrimental to the community, or is in violation of the law
Leaving personal items unattended within the facility. All personal items should fit into a gym locker. The YMCA is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Any conduct or behavior not specifically covered in the Code of Conduct; the staff of the YMCA reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of behavior to ensure compatibility with our mission and Code of Conduct

In addition, the YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender, has ever been convicted of any offense related to the sale, possession and/or transportation of illegal drugs, or is currently under the influence of illegal or dangerous drugs or chemicals, narcotics, or intoxicating beverages.

Anyone who feels that this Code of Conduct is being violated should immediately report the behavior to a staff person on duty. YMCA staff members are eager to be of assistance. Please notify a staff member if assistance is needed. The Y investigates all reported incidents. Suspension or termination of YMCA membership may result from a violation of this Code of Conduct. While an incident is being investigated, the person(s) accused of violating this Code of Conduct may be temporarily suspended pending a final decision. Cameras are installed in open/public areas only, and not in private areas such as locker rooms, restrooms, etc.

Wellness Center Expectations:

Members will be respectful and responsible while in the facility:

Return equipment to its original location
Set weights down gently
Refrain from bouncing basketballs in the Wellness Center
Play music through headphones only
Wipe down each piece of equipment after use
An orientation is required for members ages 8-16 who wish to use the facility
After completion of a Wellness Center orientation, all members age 16 and under are required to have their Y scan card on them at all times. Staff will occasionally ask for proof of orientation from minors

Facility Guidelines for Minors:

Members ages 8-11 must be within arm’s reach of a parent/guardian while in the Wellness Center
Members ages 12-15 must be within arm’s reach of a parent/guardian while in the Free Weight Room
Members ages 16-17 must have a spotter when using the Free Weight Room
Members under the age of 8 must be within arm’s reach of a parent/guardian in the pool and supervised at all times COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:

Consequences to Code Violations:

A verbal warning will be given for misuse or disrespect of YMCA equipment, staff, or members
A second infraction will result in removal from the facility for the day
A third infraction will result in removal from the facility for one week
Multiple infractions beyond this will result in further disciplinary action at the discretion of the CEO
At the discretion of YMCA staff, any person displaying disruptive behavior may be asked to leave the premises at any time

In the case of minors, YMCA staff will notify parent(s)/guardian(s) of infractions.
